- 01 Ākārāṅga Sūtra I.1 — Knowledge of the Weapon (Sattha-pariṇṇā)
The soul is real, plural, and transmigrates by its deeds. All six classes of life are sentient and feel pain, so the wise injure no living being.
- 02 Ākārāṅga Sūtra I.4–5 — Righteousness; Essence of the World
Non-violence is the eternal law declared by all the Jinas, resting on reciprocity: pain is unwelcome to every being.
- 03 Ākārāṅga Sūtra II.15 — The Five Great Vows (Mahāvrata)
The five great vows — total non-violence first, then truthful speech, non-stealing, chastity, and non-possession.
- 04 Kalpa Sūtra — Mahāvīra's Renunciation & Asceticism (Lives of the Jinas)
Liberation won by severe voluntary asceticism and equanimity, by stopping the influx of karma. The founder is exemplar, not saviour.
- 05 Sūtrakṛtāṅga Sūtra I.1 — The Doctrine (Samaya)
Possession and killing bind the soul. Wealth and kin cannot protect, and moral responsibility is non-transferable and inescapable.
- 06 Uttarādhyayana Sūtra 1–2 — On Discipline; The Twenty-Two Hardships (Parīṣaha)
The self is the hardest thing to subdue, and subduing it is the whole task. Twenty-two hardships borne with equanimity — including the pleasant ones.
- 07 Uttarādhyayana Sūtra 10 — The Leaf of the Tree
Life is as fleeting as a falling leaf or a dew-drop, so do not be careless even for a moment. Human birth and the chance to practise are exceedingly rare.
- 08 Uttarādhyayana Sūtra 28, 33 — The Three Jewels & the Nature of Karma
The road to liberation is the three jewels plus austerity. Karma is literally subtle matter binding the soul, and freedom is the soul cleared of it.
